In the wild, Myopopone castanea is found mainly in the warm, humid regions of Asia and the Indo-Australian region. It usually builds its nests in decaying wood, under bark or in places where humidity remains at a stable level. This alone shows that, when keeping them in captivity, the most important factors will be ensuring they have peace and quiet, a moist section of the nest, and regular access to protein-rich food.

These ants belong to a group of predatory species which, in the wild, mainly hunt insect larvae and other soft-bodied invertebrates. Their way of life is very interesting, but requires the keeper to be a little more attentive than with the easiest species, such as Messor barbarus or Lasius niger.
