Description

Woodworms – a nutritious, fatty and lively source of protein for your pets!

Woodworms (Zophobas morio) are one of the most popular feed insects for exotic animals – tarantulas, mantises, reptiles, as well as large ant species such as Messor, Camponotus and Pheidole megacephala. Their high nutritional value, slow movement and size make them an ideal choice for both novice breeders and more demanding pets.

Our offer includes live, healthy wood-eaters, fed with nutritious feed, ready to be served immediately after delivery.

Advantages of using wood-eating insects:

  • High fat and protein content – ideal for feeding weak or moulting individuals.

  • Easy availability and durability – they have a long shelf life in a container with oats and carrots and do not require refrigeration.

  • Attractive size and slow movement – easy to locate by spiders, reptiles or large ant colonies.

  • Versatility – ideal both as a staple food (for larger species) and as an occasional treat.

  • Keeping ants busy – a large woodworm can keep an entire colony of Messor ants busy for a long time!

What do you get?

  • Carefully packaged live wood-eating insects (quantity according to weight or description in the offer)

  • Appropriate ventilated packaging – no risk of insects suffocating during transport

  • Can be served immediately or stored for several days (more information below)

Interesting facts about wood-eating insects:

  • At home, they can pupate into very interesting black beetles!

  • They are also successfully used as supplementary food for… hedgehogs and even some exotic birds.

How to feed wood-eating ants?

For large colonies such as Messor barbarus, Carebara diversa or Camponotus singularis, woodworms are an excellent challenge and a source of valuable protein. Before feeding, we recommend gently cutting the head or halving the larva to prevent it from burrowing and to increase the availability of nutrients.

The colonies easily dismantle it into pieces and transport it to their nest – it is not only food, but also natural stimulation!

Storage instructions:

  • It is best to keep them in a plastic container with oats or sawdust at room temperature.

  • As a moist source of nutrition, provide pieces of carrot, apple or potato.

  • By keeping the container dry and the vegetables fresh, you can store wood-eating insects for up to 3–4 weeks without any losses!
