Description

Characteristics and natural environment of Psalmopoeus irminia

Psalmopoeus irminia inhabits cracks in bark and tree hollows in the rainforests of Venezuela and Guyana. As a tree-dwelling bird spider, it prefers to place its web high up.

Conditions for breeding Psalmopoeus irminia

The terrarium for Psalmopoeus irminia should be taller than it is wide, with sufficient vertical space to allow the spider to behave naturally. The substrate should be moist but not wet, with suitable shelters such as bark or cork tubes.

Diet and nutrition

This spider should be fed fast-moving insects such as cockroaches, crickets or mealworm larvae. Avoid leaving uneaten food, which can stress the spider or cause mould to develop.

Behaviour and temperament of Psalmopoeus irminia

Psalmopoeus irminia is known for its dynamic and unpredictable behaviour. Young specimens are usually more skittish, while adults can be aggressive. Although weak, its venom can cause discomfort in sensitive individuals.

Reproduction of Psalmopoeus irminia

Breeding this species requires experience and proper preparation, both in terms of creating conditions for mating and subsequent care of the offspring. Females are capable of producing several cocoons after a single mating.
