Description

Coconut fibre – a natural decoration and construction material for ants and tarantulas

Coconut fibre is a lightweight, resilient and completely natural material that works well in formicaria and terrariums. Often used as both a decorative and practical element, it allows you to mask technical elements, create nests and shelters, and maintain humidity in selected parts of the tank.

Why is it worth it?

  • Natural and safe – contains no chemicals or colourants, 100% plant-based.

  • The preferred nesting material for many ant species, especially those with more “forest” preferences, such as Camponotus or Crematogaster.

  • Supports local humidity – helps maintain the microclimate in one place without the need to irrigate the entire space.

  • Ideal for terrarium arrangements – adds naturalness and depth, especially in terrariums with arboreal tarantulas.

  • Easy to shape and trim – you can adjust them precisely to the needs of your formicarium or terrarium.

Use in ant breeding:

  • as material for covering tubes and hoses in the formicarium,

  • for building nests and chambers (ants often weave fibres into their structures),

  • as natural insulation and diversification of the arena space,

  • Especially recommended for: Camponotus nicobarensis, Camponotus singularis, Polyrhachis, Crematogaster.

Use in tarantula breeding:

  • as nesting material for tree-dwelling birds,

  • decorative additive to coconut peat or fibrous substrates,

  • light and springy filling of hiding places, corks, tubes and branches.

Tips:

  • It is advisable to rinse or scald with boiling water before use, especially when used in a humid environment or with delicate species.

  • It should not be used as the sole substrate, but as an additive or structural/decorative element.

Coconut fibre is a simple way to make your formicarium or terrarium look natural and function even better. Give it a try – your ants and tarantulas will certainly appreciate the change!
