Description

Characteristics and natural environment of Acanthoscurria geniculata

Acanthoscurria geniculata is a ground-dwelling tarantula that inhabits areas of Brazil in the wild. Its large size and distinctive colouring make it one of the most recognisable tarantulas.

Warunki hodowli Acanthoscurria geniculata

For breeding this tarantula, it is recommended to use a terrarium with a sufficiently large substrate area to allow digging. The substrate should be slightly moist and the temperature maintained at an appropriate level to ensure ideal living conditions. This tarantula is resistant to breeding mistakes, making it a good choice for beginners.

Dieta

Acanthoscurria geniculata feeds mainly on insects such as crickets, cockroaches and mealworm larvae. The size of the food should be adjusted to the size of the spider, and adult specimens are fed every 1–2 weeks.

Zachowanie Acanthoscurria geniculata

Although naturally calm, this tarantula can accelerate rapidly in case of danger. Its defence mechanism involves combing out stinging hairs from its abdomen, which is typical defensive behaviour among tarantulas.
