Rhytidoponera metallica (the so-called "green-head ant") is an Australian species with a hypnotic, metallic sheen – ranging from green to turquoise and purple. Fast, predatory, and very independent in feeding. In breeding, they delight with their activity and unusual reproductive biology (many colonies function with fertile workers – gamergates). For conscious breeders who want something more "wild" than the classic Camponotus.

Diet and feeding

Carbohydrates: water with honey/commercial carbohydrate gels in small portions (2–3 times a week).
Water: constant access (water dispenser with cotton wool/mesh to prevent them from drowning).

Tip: they are “cleaners” – they eagerly eat dead insects; add small portions frequently.
